Jodie Woodward secures the acquittal of a defendant charged with a serious ABH at Woolwich Crown Court. The Crown alleged that the defendant assaulted his ex-wife by hitting her over the head with a power tool in an unprovoked attack, before again hitting her over the head with a chair causing significant injury. The start of the trial involved complex issues surrounding bad character, hearsay and the technicalities of a witness summons. After three days of legal argument the Crown were forced to offer no evidence and a not guilty verdict was entered.
