It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that 15NBS Chambers share that our friend and colleague, Mat Hardyman, died on 15th August 2024.
Mat passed away whilst on holiday with his family. His wife, Suzy, was by his side. Although he had been unwell recently, news of his passing was a shock to us all. We offer our condolences to Suzy, his daughters, family and friends. He was one of us and will be truly missed.
Mat was a member of Lincoln’s Inn being called in 1997. He was without doubt one of the most able, talented and generous advocates at the Criminal Bar. This along with his dedication to the profession marked him as a Barrister of the highest calibre.
If you were lucky enough to meet him, you very soon realised you were in the presence of someone who was trustworthy, decent, funny, kind and would bring out the best in you. The word ‘Gentleman’ fitted him aptly. Traits increasingly rare in a profession that is stressful and emotionally draining.
15NBS, the Bar and solicitors who instructed him are all the better for having known him and all the lesser for him having left us far too soon.
Donations can be made in his name to the Kalisher Trust.
He will always be remembered fondly by Chambers.
Farewell to one of the good ones.
