Marianne joined Chambers as a tenant in April 2026 following successful completion of her pupillage in Chambers. She accepts instructions in the Magistrates’ Court and the Crown Court.
Marianne is a junior tenant practising principally in criminal and regulatory law. She is known for thorough preparation, careful written work, effective courtroom advocacy, and a strong commitment to acting in the client’s best interests. She has experience of trials, contested applications, sentencing hearings, and advisory work, and is developing a busy practice across both the Magistrates’ Court and the Crown Court.
Before coming to the Bar, Marianne practised as a County Court advocate, undertaking civil hearings including possession claims, bankruptcy claims, and infant settlement hearings. She also held senior roles at HS2 Ltd, where she was responsible for negotiating and resolving complex disputes, drafting well-structured written material, and presenting proposals to senior decision-makers ahead of Parliamentary select committees. That experience continues to inform her practical judgement, client handling, and written advocacy.
“We were particularly impressed by Marianne’s level of preparedness, the quality of her advocacy, and her commitment to acting in the best interests of the client.”
“Her skilful cross-examination of the prosecution witnesses and her clear and focused examination-in-chief of the defendant were pivotal in the outcome, ultimately resulting in an acquittal.”
“Marianne demonstrated a strong professionalism, coupled with her sharp intellect and sympathetic understanding.”
“The advice Marianne drafted was well-researched, well organised, and showed a thorough understanding of the law and of issues specific to the client’s case.”
“Marianne handled a tricky situation very well, with tact and sensitivity.”
