Will Paynter and James Bull secure acquittal in cross border conspiracy to supply drugs.

Will Paynter, leading James Bull and instructed by Emma White and Mark Edgington at Geoff White Solicitors, secure the acquittal of their client following a 10-week trial at Portsmouth Crown Court, in which the defendant was charged along with numerous others with conspiracy to supply drugs following an investigation which crossed EU borders pre-Brexit.

It was alleged that the defendant was part of an Organised Crime Group importing and supplying cannabis around the UK. The defence argued that as the cannabis was believed to be below 0.2% THC it was ‘CBD’ and as the alleged offending was pre-Brexit, they were not conspiring to do anything unlawful and were compliant with EU regulations. The Crown said tests showed it was above 0.2% THC and the defendants knew this.

Will and James had a thorough command of the extensive evidence, which spanned many different categories, including banking data, device downloads, and seized documents. They built a rapport with their young adult client who had faced the stress of this serious allegation hanging over her for several years.

After extensive legal arguments, the testing method was Judged to be inadmissible and the key drug evidence in the case was excluded. This brought the trial to a conclusion with not guilty verdicts recorded against all defendants.
