The defendant was accused of entering his step-father’s property through an open window at about 6am. His step-father awoke and a violent altercation ensued. The defendant was accused of arming himself with a hammer and attempting to hit his step-father in the head. The blow from the tool broke the complainant’s arm. The defendant asserted self-defence. He was acquitted by unanimous verdict following a four day trial at Woolwich Crown Court.
