Following a three-day trial in Isleworth Crown Court (sitting at Holborn Nightingale Court), the defendant, who had been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm, or distress at Notting Hill Carnival in 2022, was unanimously acquitted.

The Crown relied on the live evidence of three police officers, including a police Inspector, body-worn footage, and significant comments made on arrest. Over the period of three days, James highlighted inconsistencies in the officers’ evidence following the court’s determination that the defendant’s antecedents, namely previous public disorder convictions, were not to be adduced at trial.

James Bull was instructed by Birds Solicitors.
