Michael was instructed by Peter Bonner & Co to represent a 16 year old male who had originally pleaded guilty to attempted murder in the youth court, and who had been committed for sentence to the Central Criminal Court. It had been alleged that the young defendant had both strangled his girlfriend and armed himself with a knife intending to kill her. The defendant had himself dialled 999, confessing to the attack and to his intention to kill her. This confession was repeated in detail on body worn footage and subsequently in police interview. At the Old Bailey in February, Michael successfully persuaded the judge to allow the defendant to withdraw his plea. He was acquitted of attempted murder by a jury at Southwark Crown Court on 25th May 2017.
