In August 2024 acting on information received the police had reason to raid premises in Northampton. The police had been informed that a county lines operation, that had been operating from a different set of premises, now compromised, was operating from these new premises.
On entering the premises, the police found drugs, drug dealing paraphernalia, weapons, and mobile telephones. Also present were a number of young “runners”, the owner of the premises who had been “cuckooed”, and a young female.
The mobile phones were interrogated. Found on the young female’s phone was evidence of her being involved in the county lines operation. She was charged with being part of the county lines conspiracy.
She was represented by Gatsby Law at the police station through to the proceedings at the Crown Court.
During the currency of the proceedings, it became clear that she was extremely vulnerable, and the evidence found on her phone suggested that someone else had, at important times, control of that phone.
Her legal team, identifying at an early stage the issues in her case, instructed the experts necessary to properly present this young lady’s case, including a psychologist.
Armed with the above reports the defence made representations to the prosecution.
The prosecution reviewed the position in light of said representations and concluded that it was not in the public interest to continue proceedings against the young lady. The case concluded with the prosecution offering no evidence and not guilty verdicts entered.
Nick Evans was instructed, and ably assisted by Aamer Rathor at Gatsby Law.
