Following a 9 week trial at Woolwich Crown Court, Rupert Hallowes and Stuart Dingle secured the unanimous acquittals of two brothers who had been accused of participating in a two year conspiracy to import Class A drugs worth £50m.
Four defendants stood trial, the fifth conspirator having pleaded guilty shortly before the trial.
The prosecution evidence was wide ranging and voluminous and included cell site; telecommunication evidence; Encrochat messaging between the two defendants who were convicted by the jury; undercover surveillance; and hours of CCTV footage from Gatwick Airport where the two brothers worked as baggage handlers.
Stuart’s client gave evidence and called a witness employed at the airport.
Rupert’s client did not give evidence, but called character evidence.
Rupert was instructed by Geoff White Solicitors.
Stuart was instructed by Taylor Rose Solicitors.
