Martin Rutherford QC conducted the first ever Cayman Islands High Court trial virtually. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic all international flights in and out of the Cayman Islands had been suspended, meaning that a serious historic sex abuse trial could not take place with the benefit of representation by a QC. However the High Court judge gave Martin permission to appear via virtually, the client having indicated his unwillingness to face trial in Martin’s absence. Accordingly, history was made.
