Chloe Carvell has concluded the successful defence of a client charged with s.18 wounding with intent, affray, and possession of a bladed article.
Chloe successfully argued that the evidence against her client was not sufficient to establish that he was one of the suspects involved (specifically, the alleged stabber) in a stabbing that took place outside Canary Wharf train station in August 2022 and that a reasonable jury could not reject all realistic possibilities consistent with her client’s innocence.
Of note, in the dismissal argument, Chloe submitted that the identification evidence made by a police officer was weak, there were clear physical differences between the suspect in the CCTV footage and her client, and the Crown was unable to disprove her client’s alibi (the police only began their investigation in relation to the alibi seven months after raising it in the police interview).
The successful outcome in this case could not have been achieved without the hard work and tenacity of Chloe’s instructing solicitor, Anne-Marie Geraghty of Blackfords LLP.
