Rupert Hallowes came to represent RN in ongoing proceedings at Southwark Crown Court after legal aid was transferred to Newgate Solicitors from the firm with the original legal aid order three weeks before the trial listing. RN was indicted with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and conspiracy to possess a firearm. Following negotiations with the Crown and the submission of a carefully drafted basis of plea, the sentencing court was persuaded not only to impose sentence in accordance with the basis, but also to accord close to full credit for the plea. The court was, moreover, persuaded to impose a concurrent sentence for the firearms conspiracy because it was so intimately acquainted with the drugs conspiracy, thereby resulting in a total sentence of 4 and a half years’ imprisonment.
Rupert was instructed by Aamer Rathor of Newgate Solicitors.
