Martin Rutherford QC and Beth Crocker represented BK, one of 6 defendants charged with Murder, Manslaughter in the alternative and Attempted Murder of two victims. In the early hours of 12th December 2019, the two victims were subject to a vicious knife attack at the cannabis ‘grow house’ that they were looking after in Essex. The first victim was stabbed to death within the property and the second was stabbed to the stomach but managed to escape by jumping from a first-floor window. The prosecution alleged that BK was one of the attackers within the premises. BK gave evidence to the jury that he never entered the property but was outside acting as a look out for what he believed to be a burglary of an unoccupied property. The jury unanimously acquitted him of the Murder and Attempted Murder of the two victims. He was convicted of aggravated burglary.
