Tana Adkin KC and Beth Crocker instructed by Alex Graham of Heckford Norton Solicitors represented a 21 year old man convicted of a “one-punch Manslaughter” following an England Euro 2024 football match. The defendant’s single punch caused the rupture of a vertebral artery in the neck and virtually instant death.
In this unusual case the vulnerability of those in drink to this type of injury due to relaxation of the neck muscles was considered by expert pathologists.
The defendant was sentenced at Huntingdon Crown Court to a 2 Year Suspended sentence by the Judge who found the defendant had acted in self defence but used excessive force. He described it as a “very sad and tragic case”.
